18th century lexicographer, writer, critic and probable Tourette Syndrome sufferer Samuel Johnson once said, “Knowledge is of two kinds. We know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information upon it.” When shopping for wine, I frequently use the second kind of knowledge. And most often, my source is Marion. She not only knows much more about wine than I do, she remembers more about it. (Note to self: Could that be because I drink more of it than she does?)
But now there’s a smartphone app that possibly knows even more about wine than Marion and me put together. And it’s free. Created by wine specialist and author Natalie MacLean, it gives you instant scores, tasting notes and even food pairing suggestions for more than 150,000 wines. Just scan the barcode on the bottle with the Natalie MacLean Wine Picks & Pairings app and suddenly, you’re a wine expert.
To see what else the app can do—and where to get your hands on it for free—check out my latest post on the USA Character Approved Blog. I have to admit, more than many apps I’ve seen, this one has me thinking about swapping my dumbphone for a smart one.
AWESOME! I have to get this!
No more asking the store clerk for wine choices.
Great no more whining about my wine selections…..
Now, I can be a whining wine Snob..LOL
KatelynLikesThis—I know, right? Yet one more app nudging me toward getting a smartphone.
Patty—In the right store, the right clerk can be invaluable. But this app sounds encyclopedic, doesn’t it?
