The holiday entertaining season is upon us. A few weeks ago, I made a Cherry Orange Loaf Cake that’s great to serve your guests or give your host. Here are five more dessert recipes to help make celebrations sweeter.
1. Frangipane Pear and Cherry Cake
Pears and tart cherries team up with almond-based frangipane in Marion’s flavorful Frangipane Pear and Cherry Cake that gets even better the second day. So it’s perfect for making a day ahead or having on hand when guests drop by.
2. Hazelnut Rosemary Jam Cookies
Fresh rosemary adds a subtle, mysterious something extra to my not-too-sweet Hazelnut Rosemary Jam Cookies, perfect with a cup of tea or as a light finish to a holiday meal.
3. Marion’s Big-flavored Gingerbread
This is some serious gingerbread. Dark molasses, black pepper and Chinese five-spice powder give it plenty of flavor and a satisfyingly spicy bite. Marion’s Gingerbread makes a perfect hostess gift, if you can bear to part with it.
4. Baked Pears with Currants and Walnuts
I originally posted this recipe as a fall dessert, but there are still plenty of beautiful pears to be had at the market. And the mix of nuts, currants, brown sugar and cinnamon make Baked Pears with Currants and Walnuts a simple, luscious dessert perfect for the holiday table.
5. [Almost] Flourless Chocolate Cake
When it comes to dessert, few things trump chocolate in my book. Especially when it takes the rich, dense form of Marion’s stellar [Almost] Flourless Chocolate Cake. It’s a perennial favorite at our house. Try it once and it will be at yours too.
Thank you so much for the {re-} gift! These all look and sound wonderful. Especially this time of year, there isn’t the time to stroll through archives, even on my favorite sites. I appreciate you doing the work for me. 🙂 I hope that you, Marion, and your family have a wonderful holiday season!
Thanks, Dani! I hope you do too. Do you and your granddaughter have anything, um, cooked up for the holidays?
Pun intended, huh, Terry? Both grandkids and I will make cut out Christmas cookies. Then between them, my daughter, and I, we will make and bake quick breads, bars and candy as gifts. My granddaughter makes a mean chocolate truffle. Cream puffs for New Year’s. Prime rib on Christmas Eve. Traditions. How about you and Marion?
Hi, Dani! Sounds like you spend some great time in the kitchen around the holidays. I still mean to try truffles one of these days. One cherished holiday tradition for us is Christmas Eve dinner in Chinatown.
absolutely nothing wrong w/ a regift – especially if they look like these!
